Early Pregnancy Signs - Implantation Bleeding

Before many women have their pregnancy test give them two lines, a big +, or a “Pregnant” in the display window, there’s an earlier sign — implantation bleeding. Not everyone has this among their set of early pregnancy symptoms but many do and it’s a pretty strong early sign of conception.

When does implantation bleeding occur and for what duration?

Implantation bleeding symptoms first turns up looking like an early period. It often happens between a week and 1.5 weeks (usually between six and twelve days) after conception as spotting that last a short time. Many women believe their period has arrived early but then notice it’s over before it really starts with just a bit of spotting and nothing else.  It’s often just a few drops of light or dark blood. If you see it, there’s a good sign you’ll have a positive pregnancy test in about another week or two. How do you know it’s not your period? Your period typically starts off light and gets heavier. This isn’t the case with implantation spotting. It usually lasts less than a day.
