Just a point to ponder…yesterday I was in the dollar store and saw pregnancy tests. I was shocked. The first time I bought a pregnancy test it was about $18. The second time it was still about $12 although 8 years later. I find it very unsettling to trust a $1 pregnancy test. Has anyone tried them and found them to be accurate? Could you ask for a refund if it was incorrect?

Would you buy a $1 pregnancy test from a dollar store?

  1. Absolutely not. I saw the same thing at my last visit to a dollar store, and pointed it out to my husband. Sorry, but I have too much riding on that one little test; I’m paranoid enough about the accuracy of regularly priced tests.

  2. I was shocked when I saw them and couldn’t believe anyone would trust them. I’ve had bad enough experiences with dollar store cleaning products. I love how they try to make ‘their’ brand look like a brand name.

I do shop there for many thing that make it worthwhile but fertility products? Ummmm no.

  3. I have used these $1 tests many times and they have always been accurate. Seriously it’s merely a strip designed to detect HCg hormones in urine. They shouldn’t be $15.

  4. Thanks so much for your reply, Robin. It’s good to know this is a good option, especially for women ttc’ing for several months. It can get quite expensive!

  5. I’ve used them a few times, and yes, they seem to be accurate. All it seems to be is a normal test without all the plastic covering surrounding it. Maybe they’re not quite as sensitive as those designed for people who just HAVE TO KNOW an extra 5 (?) days early, but they do work.

If I were in a situation to need a test again, I’d certainly use one of those. I’ve got better things to save/spend my money on than a stick to pee on!

  6. if you are trying to get pregnant and want to pee on a stick constantly like i did when we were trying, they can save you a ton of money!

  7. Yeah. I’ve used them and they are very accurate. You cant do the whole before your missed period but they do work.
Why spend so much money on something that is accurate as the next one and can be bought cheaply.

  8. When i first found out i was pregnant, i hadn’t realized i had missed my period, i just had a feeling & on a whim decided to buy one. There happened to be a dollar store two blocks down from my house.
The first test was positive & so were the next four. It took five pregnancy tests to convince me & it only cost me about five dollars.

  9. The dollar store pregnancy tests are actually more sensitive than first response. These tests are nothing but a strip of paper that detects HcG and can be bought for .25 a strip. You want to spend more on a test for what reason, again?

I counsel women who are trying to conceive. I’ve found over the years that the dollar store tests are the most accurate, give you a positive result fastest, and give you the least number of false positives and evap lines. Yes, I would use them.

  10. Yes The Dollar Store Tests Are Very Accurate! I Think Its Funny When I Think About It Now. We TTC For 11 Months So I Used Alot Of These Tests. When I Found Out I Was Pregnant I Used 6 Of The Dollar Store Tests Cause I Wanted To Use Them All Up! I Should Have Bought Stock In Them! LOL! They Are Just As Correct As The Other Ones Since All Your Doing Is Peeing On Them! LOL! I Did However Buy A Digital Just So I Could See The Word Pregnant On It Since We TTC For So Long! Just My Thoughts!

    Happy Peeing!

  11. i actually work at a dollar store “Dollar Tree” and they sell them, they’re kept right at my register. I will admit, i did giggle when i first saw them, thinking it was pretty weird to sell them for a dollar. but People buy the constantly. and i know people as well that have used them and didn’t have a problem. i’d trust them. It’s a lot better than buying a $10 one anywhere else and have it end up being negative. lol.

  12. Thanks Kalaina,
I’m convinced. I started this post completely sure I’d never buy one but have been converted with all the comments here.
    Cheers :)

  13. Absolutely nothing wrong with the dollar store tests, they are as accurate as any test that I’ve purchased for $15. Not to mention, they are so much cheaper when you are trying to conceive and are constantly taking tests.

    Good luck!

  14. I used the dollar store test with all 3 of my pregnancies. I found them very very accurate!!! I would suggest them to anyone. It saves you a lot of money that you can spend buy those oh so cute baby clothes!!!

  15. My dear friend is a midwife and a surrogate mother. She is respected in our community and I trust her judgment. That being said, she told me that the dollar store pregnancy tests are safe and I have used them with both my pregnancies and even twice when I turned out not to be pregnant. They were always accurate but just like any pregnancy test there is a margin of error. My friend also uses them in her pregnancies and has had good results. They have the same things in them and work just as well so don’t knock them just because you got duped into spending $17 more than you needed to! IN short, they are safe and cheap, why not use them?

  16. loving getting all the comments on this one. My initial fear of these being accurate is totally gone and I’d try them out in a heart beat now.
    Thanks all!

  17. Thanks for making this post! I didn’t even know dollar stores sold pregnancy tests. It sounds much better than spending all that money.

  18. Why wouldn’t it work? A positive’s a positive! They were just as accurate as any other test I’ve used.

  19. i wont use theyre wannabe sharpie brand markers. Shoupies. lol
who would be stupid enough to trust one of those

  20. No…I had 3 false negatives with the good name brand ones. So I dont think I would buy a cheap one, the only real way to know 100% is through a blood test.

  21. I wish we had of had dollar stores here in Australia while we were TTC. I went through so many tests!

  22. i’d rather use 18 one dollar tests than one 18 dollar test, surely that would be more accurate, lol

  23. Good point, Anonymous :) LOL.

  24. When my sister was TTC, she bought a couple hundred sticks at like, $0.30 a stick. So why not use the $1 ones/

  25. That sounds like a deal, Sarah!

  26. I had a friend who already knew she was pregnant and decided to try the cheap test just to see if they work. It came back negative! Not trying to knock the Dollar Store tests, but that’s the been my experience with them.

  27. They are accurate! I was 6 weeks and took a dollar store test.. came up quite obviously positive.. and sure enough I was pregnant considering I have a beautiful 10 month old son today. They are all the same.. no need to pay more.. but if you are weary you can always buy like 8 of them and take them all – still cheaper and if they ALL come up positive, well you’re freakin’ pregnant.

  28. I’ve used these in times i was pregnant and it times i was not. They showed me as pregnant first, when i was expecting my first child, and not when we were trying for our second, but not pregnant yet. They have been accurate for me. They are all the same and save you money.

  29. Yup thats how I found out :0

  30. Dollar store tests work just as well as the expensive ones. Especially if you are ttc and testing often. FYI: so do the generic walmart brand tests :)

  31. yes actually ive gotten a positive on one and i am 10 weeks pregnant

  32. While I haven’t ever used one from a dollar store, I have almost always used the generic from Wal-Mart. They’re usually about $8, rather than the next one in price being $18.
I talked with my doctor about this. His response was that you can get a false negative, but with a test boasting 99% accuracy (which I believe that all of them do – if not, that’s what you should look for) you’ll never get a false positive, unless you’re using it wrong.
This is certainly a good topic – thanks for the thinker. I saw a lot of cool responses – I especially liked the one who said she’d rather try 18 $1 tests than 1 $18 because surely that would be more accurate. HAHAHA!

  33. Totally! They use the same technology. I used the dollar store test to confirm my second pregnancy. Every economical. Save the expensive test to confirm the dollar store test. It’ll save you a lot of money of your TTC for a while.

  34. I used Dollar Store pregnancy test for my second child and it was accurate. I used 2 actually just to confirm :)

  35. all the ones that will use the $1 pregnancy tests are SMART! my best friends mom works at a clinic and when they go into the doctors office, they were using the same dollar store tests. So why would you waste so much money on something they dont waste the money on because they are just as accurate!

  36. They worked just fine for my wife and I! We tried 3 or 4 of them just to make sure that we were expecting, and they all came up positive! There isn’t anything wrong with them, but I would suggest buying 2 or three and trying them a few days apart. Also, make sure you read the directions! If you try to early, the test may be incorrect.

  37. My first reaction was- no way! But after reading through everyone’s comments, I must say I’m a bit more open minded about the cheap tests. Ultimately though, I’d still trust a big brand name in the end.

  38. I have 3 kids and I live right by a dollar tree. 2 times I have gotten my pregnancy tests there. With my first son I got a first response test where it showed 1 line and then 1 half of a line. So I went to the dollar tree to get a test cause I was short on cash and I got an instant positive with a dollar tree test. So with all my other pregnancies that all I used cheapo dollar tests! lol..

  39. Also, they now sell ovulation tests and I have had lots of people highly recommend those.

  40. Yes. They actually work. A friend of mine has two children and one on the way and has used the dollar store tests every time and they have always been right.

  41. I bought some test papers in China, every one test costs 2RMB, it means 0.25$ in U.S.A. You can use 1$ to buy 10 packs pregnancy test papers in China.

  42. I used the dollar store pregnancy test! It showed a positive right away.

  43. I’ve used them and they have been right. My only complaint is they don’t offer a stick to pee on. You have to supply a cup to pee in then use a dropper to drop pee on the stick. Kind of aggravating that way.

  44. OMG, don’t even hesitate! They are very accurate! Don’t get suckered into spending 14.99 each. I am pregnant now with my first and I’ve bought both. I actually like the dollar store tests better! It’s SMART girls…

  45. Also, my dollar store tests were accurate 3 days BEFORE by period was supposed to come. They are great!!

  46. Im like Tanya after reading some of the comments I will start buying the dollar store preg test for now on. I have been buying the pregnancy test with two test in the box for about $9.99 and they both came out negative. Now the other day I bought another one so all together I paid over twenty dollars.

I’m going to stock up on the dollar store ones.

    Thanks for the info.

  47. When you buy the 15 dollar tests, you’re paying merely for the labels.

  48. I PAID ABOUT $15 DOLLARS FOR A NAME BRAND TEST THAT TOLD ME I WAS NOT PREGNANT. WITH CONSISTANT SIGNS THAT I WAS PREGNANT, LIKE NO PERIOD, AND INCREASED SLEEPING AND EATING. I SPENT ANOTHER $15 FOR A PREGNACY TEST THAT SAID I WAS PREGNANT. SO WHY NOT PAY A DOLLAR AT THE DOLLAR STORE FOR A TEST. EVEN THE EXSPENSIVE TEST GIVE INACCURATE RESULTS, SO ITS WISE TO BY A DOLLAR STORE TEST TWICE THAN BUYING A $15 DOLLAR TEST TWICE. AND JUST SUM FOOD FOR THOUGHT. YOU DONT WANT TO BUY A CHEAP PREGNACY TEST THAT ALL U DO IS PEE ON. YET YOU WILL GO AND BUY SUM CHEAP FOOD FROM THE DOLLAR STORE. SOMETHING THAT YOU PUT INTO YOUR BODY. PEOPLE PLEASE BE WISE IN LIFE.

  49. Yes, they are accurate, however they are not as sensitive in the early days of pregnancy. I have used them a few times before while trying to conceive, and the only complaints that I have about them are that one brand was impossible to read with any accuracy. Aside from that one, they worked just as well as the 12 dollar ones, altho I admit to checking the first few times with an expensive one just to make sure.

  50. yeah i would and did and found out i was pregnant with my children with one. they worked just as good

  51. I have used them with 100% accuracy many times while trying and not trying to get pregnant. One thing to keep in mind before passing judgment on a product is to remember that it may not be meant for you. I mean that these tests are in every major dollar store because there are many women out there (and girls) that have very limited to no income that may find themselves in a need of a test. For these people 15 dollars is a lot. 18.99 is out of the question, and anything over 20 bucks is for “rich people”. This test (when used correctly) is just like any other test. It may take a little longer but at least it’s there for us if we need it.

  52. In China, these test strips in nice walgreen-like pharmacy stores are being sold for 1 RMB each ( about 15 cents)… really there is no magic in this sticks… prices here are so ripped off.

  53. WE have been trying for 4 month’s now,I get the dollar test’s.Reading all of the comment’s has eased my mind about them,Because with as much as I test,I would go bankrupt buing the expensive one’s.I actually went to my neighborhood dollar store today to get one,and they were sold out!thank’s to everyone who has left a comment.

  54. With my son, I used a dollar store test three days after my period was due and it was an IMMEDIATE positive. There are no evaporation lines, unlike with the expensive, brand-name tests (tried those first…what a waste of money!), they give a negative or positive result instantly (I mean less than a minute) and leave no doubt in your mind. If it’s negative, you’ve only wasted a dollar, not $15.

People shouldn’t be so closed to things just because they cost less. Don’t get suckered into always buying things just because they are brand name! Smart mommies who are trying to conceive know how helpful it is to have a bunch of pregnancy tests at just $1 each. I would never, never use an expensive test again; no need.

It is true that you generally have to wait until the time your period is due, but you’re supposed to wait anyway with most tests if you want a truly accurate result.

  55. LAST MONTH ON JULY 13 I TOOK A FIRST RESPONSE TEST AND IT CAME UP NEGATIVE. MY PERIOD WAS DUE ON THE 14TH AND I WAS 2 DAYS LATE! I STAY ON FOR FOUR DAYS BUT IT WAS NOT NORMAL AS USUAL. NOW I’M DUE JULY 9 AND NO PERIOD. I TOOK A DOLLAR STORE BRAND AND IT CAME UP POSITIVE. I WENT TO THE DOCTOR YESTERDAY AND SHE TOLD ME I COULD BE FURTHER ALONE BECAUSE THAT TEST IS NOT A 5 DAY SOONER TEST! AND IT SHOULD HAVE GAVE ME A NEGATIVE RESPONSE SINCE I TOOK IT A DAY BEFORE MY CYCLE WAS DUE. I WILL FIND HOW FAR LONG I AM AFTER AN ULTRASOUND IS DONE!IF I AM THE FIRST RESPONSE TEST GAVE ME A NEGATIVE EVEN WHEN I WAS PREGNANT SO WHY NOT SAVE MONEY AND BUY A DOLLAR STORE BRAND!

  56. Yep sure would! Got my positives with both of my kids with the Baby test you buy at the Dollar General. Came out positive the both times the morning I was expecting my period so it`s pretty sensitive I would say! Another thing that`s great is the results on those baby`s do not fade! lol Still have mine from 3 and 4 years ago ;)

  57. They say it will take one-three minutes for the results on the Dollar Tree tests… it took 5 seconds.

LONG LIVE DOLLAR TREE PREGNANCY TESTS!

  58. they are bull crap. i took a dollar tree store test 5 times and they all said negitive. i went the following monday to pph and took a test and it was positive. 2 days later from a dollar store still negitive. so no they dont work and i was five weeks pregnte already. even the doc said next time just come there cause those test are not accurate at all and are just throw a ways from other stores.

  59. Does anyone really believe that the doctors’ offices pay $18/test? Of course not! It’s economics, plain and simple – people will pay $18, so they can charge that.

  60. why is it every post I find about this… everyone is happy that they’re preggo? I’m scared to death. I’m going to get the blood test tomorrow to make sure, but I didn’t get a positive on my dollar store test.

  61. why is it every post I find about this… everyone is happy that they’re preggo? I’m scared to death. I’m going to get the blood test tomorrow to make sure, but I did get a positive on my dollar store test.

  62. Natalea,
I felt that way with my first pregnancy. I was petrified of becoming a mother for almost the whole nine months (although I fell in love the first time I heard the heartbeat). Hope things turn out the way you want them.

  63. Yes–you can trust a D.T. pregnancy test, even as cheap as they may seem! My husband and I have been trying for 4 months now (no luck) and I was literally waisting away $$ on like 2 boxes of clear blue every month!…Every time to find out that it was negative! A friend of mine kept saying…go to the dollar store and get a bunch there, they work great! (She had good luck with them and the 2 boys she now has)
She also said that the dollar tree tests accept less hormone is your body..where the fancier ones need more in order to read it properly…
So, I bought 5 lol! I mean, why not?? Came up negative, but I think I’m a bit too soon….
Good luck everyone! Happy baby making ;) lol

  64. I have bought several of the drug store brands until I found the test at the $1 store. I dont see a reason to spend all the money for the fancy ones. The $1 store ones require a bit more work but it is totally worth saving all that money.

  65. I’ve used the dollar store pregnancy tests twice. It was negative when I wasn’t pregnant and positive when I was. They work just fine.

  66. I have been pregnant four times and the dollar store test worked every single time. Sometimes, I even got a positive before I missed my period. I swear by these test. They work like a charm.

  67. Yes. I have used $1 to confirm pregnancy – it is the same as all the rest with less packaging. You can dip in a cup of urine or drop the urine into the collection well – easy and sanitary compared to peeing on those sticks! I also use their ovulation tests to track my cycle since I am trying NOT to conceive. I think it is funny that people wouldn’t use them. The ones in the doctor’s office are the same thing almost with even less packaging, believe it or not. They cost them less than $1 each, and charge over $20 to stick it in your urine for you. BTW – The Dollar Tree brand as of 2009 is sensitive to 25miU which is one of the lowest ones on the market. Best wishes in 2010.

  68. I know two pregnant ladies who took a dollarama preggers test, both came out positive, and accurate. (multiple times) i took one (knowing i wasn’t pregnant) and it came out accurately negative. although, when it came down to REALLY finding out if >i< was pregnant, i spent the 12 dollars ^.^(it was positive! <3)

  69. yes they work the same i had two on my pregancy and they both were positive..there the same as the expensive ones

  70. I was short on cash when I suspected I was pregnant so I went to the dollar store and bought two of them they both said positive so just to make sure a week later I bought the clear blue digital and one was in error and one said pregnant. The dollar store ones are just as accurate as the expensive name brands some are plain some are fancy but they all have a strip inside that detect the hormone HcG.I would buy a dollar store one first and if u don’t trust it then buy an expensive one but you have to realize u may get a trial in error on the cheap one or the expensive one.

  71. My experience was also a “negative” one (literally). I tested the day my period was due and the Dollar Store test came up negative though I was feeling “different”. Disappointed, the next day I bought a CVS Pharmacy version of “Early Response” and it came up POSITIVE! I WAS actually pregnant!

Sounds like its a case of varying levels of HCG in women, which day you test, and how sensitive each test is. I’m sure there’s some Dollar Stores that carry old or defective ones too. The test I got wasn’t as sensitive as it claimed (no more than 25 I’d say), but it sounds like they’re pretty accurate if you don’t test too early, your HCG levels are high enough for it to detect, and the test isn’t from a bad batch. I personally am staying away from them from now on.

  72. i bought dollar store tests… way too many dollar store tests. the problem was the line was so light it looked like an evaporation line. i was so unsure that i kept testing over and over and over. finally got the digital ept. guess who’s pregnant? yep, me. i was seeing this thin line for days on the dollar store test, it wouldn’t really appear until at least 8 minutes. so confusing. i think i just wanted that YES or NO so bad. i should have just waited and tested with the digital.

  73. With my first pregnancy I didn’t have to worry about paying to test, I was working in a Dr’s office and just took one out the drawer (they cost about $.25 each, we would buy in bulk) and went into the bathroom. It was the first day of my scheduled period and it came out positive. Well I don’t work in that Dr. office anymore and have to buy my tests, I discovered the dollar store ones and bought a few (why not they are only $1) when I opened the box to try one out. I discovered they are practically identical to the ones we used when I worked at the Dr. office. I used one test and got a positive, it is very very rare to get a false positive. If you use the $1 one and get a negative maybe you aren’t pregnant or MAYBE your HCG level is not built up enough yet, a more expensive test can’t magically change your HCG level to be higher. Just wait a day or two and try the $1, why not you spend more than that on a cup of coffee :-)

  74. In My experience they are not Accurate I took one one day and it gave me a negative result and the next day I had a gyn appt which revealed I was Indeed Pregnant sooo

  75. Actually, my sister used a dollar store pregnancy test and it was accurate. She is now 22 weeks pregnant.

  76. Two days ago I took an equate $4 pregnancy test that I got from walmart and it gave me a plus. I just took the dollar test from the dollar store and it gave me a positive too. I am excited I believe I am 3 to 4 weeks along. I am boyond excited.

  77. I’ve used these test many times. I have never had one be wrong.

  78. Omg im so paranoid i bought Two dollar pregnancy test and both came out positive and then i was no scared i just wanted to make sure and went to the pharmacy and both a 10 dollar one and both said positive im freakying out and so hungry all thw time lol! I shud be be 3 -5 weeks

  79. i just took a dollar tree test and it came out neg, tho my period is a week late. Are they alot more accuret in the morning?

  80. I used them for months when I was trying for the first time. When I wasn’t pregnant, they were negative, and the day that I finally was, it was positive! I just took one again today, and it says I am expecting my second born! :)

  81. Hello Everyone!

My take on is that dollar store tests do work, they are just not always as sensitive as some others. In fact, they will only detect pregnancy if you body has produced at least 25 mIU of HCG – whereas First Response will detect pregnancy when you have only produced 18 mIU. So, that would explain why some ladies are saying that they tried a more expensive brand that came up negative – then days later they tried a dollar store test and it came up positive. Also, this does not mean that the dollar store tests are more accurate or sensitive. When the expensive test was tried, your body may not have produced enough HCG for it to detect the pregnancy – but by the time you tried the dollar store test, you had produced enough. I’m not saying this is always the case – all man made things produce error – but, just what I think. It just depends :)

  82. I used them! Very accurate.. I have a little boy to prove it ;)

  83. Hey everybody. I just wanted to let you know that the OVULATION preditor tests at dollar tree work great as well. I’m temping and charting and the predictors hit dead on. I’m looking forward to trying the dollar tree pregnancy tests for the first time this month =:)

  84. Thanks Tonya! I wonder how many of our readers have had success with an ovulation kit so you’ve inspired me to start a new post on the topic:

Ovulation Tests for One Dollar. Would you buy one?.

  85. not accurate. i took a digital EPT said “pregnant” a few days later i had to get a blood test at the doctor, to get a referral to a OB-GYN, and while waiting for my blood test i was like “omg wat if my test was wrong???!?!!?!?” so i went and got a cheap-o at the dollar tree. it said negaitve, lol im six weeks pregnant. stupid dollar tree. my doctor said “dont trust them some are right and some are wrong”

  86. It’s funny because i actually just bought one from dollar general 3 days ago, it came up positive. I didn’t want to believe it so i got a blood pregnancy test done at the hospital and.. Yep! you got it. i’m 6 Weeks pregnant!. I’ve heard a lot of stories about dollar store hpt’s that don’t work just about as much as i heard about ones that do. i guess you just have to get lucky to get an accurate one. But it really all depends on how sensitive the test is, and your level of HCG!

  87. just yesterday, my friend referred me to the $1 pg test because it was positive for her! she used a brand name to confirm it…but her result was true. she is now happily preggo at 16 weeks!

  88. i used the walmart brand first and it was a faded positive. then i toke two of the dollar store ones and they boy came out positive. they do work! and theyre way cheaper then the other ones!

  89. I think they work but the sensitivity may not be as good for some people as the more expensive ones. I have taken 4 digital tests (2 Clear Blue Easy & 2 EPT) over a course of 2 weeks and they all said “pregnant” immediately. I have tried a few dollar tree tests as well during this time and they have all read “negative” (although one had a faint line). I just think my HCG level is not high enough for the cheaper test. I know I’m preganant though…and super excited :)

  90. Actually, the dollar store tests have always been the most accurate for me.

  91. Ladies you have talked me into buying some of these tests. Im going to the dollar store to buy one tomorrow. Hope it comes back positive, kinda nervous. Thanks to all! :)

  92. I’ll let you know if they are accurate or not! All my $ Tree tests are negative, until 10 minutes when they turn positive with a faint but pink line – not shadowy…while at the same time, with the same sample all the first responses and EPT’s are positive, even the digital. The one first reponse is a rapid result which is said to detect 100 miu!!! The $ Tree say they detect at 25 miu. I have to retest on Wednesday and call for a confirmation appointment!!!!

  93. Update…not only did the ovulation predictor tests work, the pregnancy tests worked too =:) I’m 10 weeks pregnant right now. Good luck everyone. Save your money and use the dollar tree cheapies.

  94. Thanks for the update, Tonya. Congrats!!

  95. yea, i’m 15, and i dont drive. and there’s a dollar store in walking distance of my house that has pregnancy tests. helpful for young, jobless teens.

    wow…no. that sounds bad.
have protected sex when you’re young!!
    …..
    …..
    don’t have sex young!!

  96. Well, my Take is they are perfectly fine! I used them accurately, and actually i compared the box to some of the more expensive brands. Surprisingly, they were more sensitive then alot of the more expensive brands out there (not all of them mind you, but definetely a good chunk)

  97. Maybe if I was TTC for a long time. Tests can be spendy. If a cheap test came out positive, then I’d spring for an expensive one to double check.

  98. I used a dollar tree brand test in August 2006 and was delighted (and shocked!) to learn I was expecting my first little girl! I was about 6 weeks pregnant when I took the test and there was NO doubt about it. It was a clear positive ASAP.

  99. My sister has 3 boys and found out with the dollar store test. 100% accurate! :o )

  100. i took 6 all + im preggo! they work great

  101. They work alright!! My friend tested positive the day after her missed period. It was positive and she just had her baby a week ago.

  102. I have tried the $1 Store tests.
They have worked for me, and friends.
And being tight in money, its nice to spend only $1

  103. i was telling and been telling myself this for a while on my lunch brake i was very bored so i went next door to the dolllar stre and got a pregnancy test. i had already tesated positive from the night before but was very curious test came out negatoive… they work wen u are like 3 to 4 months pregnant my friend tested positive wen she was that far along..

  104. If you test with one of these I would not entirely trust it. I’m sure they are sometimes accurate, but I took two of them (one the day before period was due and another one a few days later) and were negative. A week later (just KNOWING I was pregnant) I went to a clinic and turns out that my intuition was right. So I did not have accurate results with the dollar store tests. I went to all these websites hoping to read that other people had false negatives because I really wanted the dollar store test to be wrong and was downhearted to see that most women rave about them, so I really started to think I was not pregnant after all but I was!

  105. I actually work at a Dollar Tree and we get comments on the Pregnancy Tests all the time. I’ve actually taken one myself just for the hell of it, knowing I wasn’t pregnant and it came up negative. So that’s all I can say for my own experience, but I did actually have a customer tell me that she worked at a gynecologist’s office and that they actually use the EXACT SAME test. Same brand and everything. So if the doc’s are using it, I’m gonna say its pretty accurate. That or don’t go to that doctor… lol

  106. I’ve been using them for over a year. Negative results were accurate and most recently took 2 with positive results…also accurate!

  107. Yes they are just as accurate as the more expensive ones, if not better. I took one a few days before my period was due and yes I was pregnant. I’ve also used one in the past that came up negative and it was also right. Do not waste your money on those expensive ones because that money can be put towards the baby if you are or trying to concieve

  108. I used Dollar General brand because it detects 25HCG, which is more sensitive than many other name brand tests. I got faint positives starting at 6 days before my period was due. By the 5th darker positive 4 days before my period…I finally accepted the result :D

  109. I’ve used the $1 test. Accurate. The only thing to watch for is the expiration date, if it’s too old, a positive result may be very faint. They are only a buck, get a few and pee away!

  110. I did a dollar store ovualtion test the past 10 days and finally today it was positive so they do really work!!

  111. There is NO such thing as a 100% accurate test. With my first child I tried 7, I repeat 7 at home tests and they were ALL negative. I was 8 1/2 weeks before I got a postive test. That includes $20 dollar tests AND dollar store tests. I say go to the doc.

  112. they definatley work

  113. Definately. I took one test on the day of my missed period from the dollar store. It immediately read positive and I am now 8 months pregnant with my daughter. There is no need for the tests to cost 15 dollars.

  114. I’ve been using dollar store PT. The first time I used it, it came out accurate, but of course, wanted to make sure, I bought the $18 which came out to confirmed the dollar PT. After having the baby, I still bought the dollar PT every time I missed period, and it turned out negative which later my period started.

I trust $1 PT because I think these products are from the third world countries which was quite expensive there, but of course, we all know dollar is higher compare to other currencies. So, I thought I would share.

  115. My Dollar store pregnancy test worked before my period was due, and for a woman trying to get pregnant and uses a test bi-weekly,the price was right. Also a Lady who works at a Pregnancy Crisis center told me they did test and it work just as good as the other non early test.

  116. When you’re ttc testing could get expensive. I myself have been ttc for almost a year so I asked at the dr’s office if the $1 store test were any good and the nurse said that those tests are sometimes the same or better then what they use. They buy their test in bulk and buy whatever has the best bulk price. After hearing that I trust them :)

  117. yes they are very accurate.. i used one before when i was pregnant and it came right up then i checked with 4 other diff. brands all positive:)

  118. i used it. and it was rite. i was pregnant

  119. Whats wrong with a $1 pregnancy test? I worked in a grocery store a few years ago, and would see people come in all the time and buy a preganancy test for exactly a dollar. In fact, my best friend found out she was pregnant using the exact one, she actually took two so they ARE reliable. It doesnt mean anything just because they are a dollar.

  120. I Know of a doctor that is in doctor without borders that stocks up on this $1 before leaving on a trip

  121. YEs i also agree they do work. Im currently pregnant with my 2nd child and found out using the dollar store pregnancy test and believe i only concieved because i used their ovulation test too.Weve been trying for a few months using the ovulation calendar from the web and nothing so i bought their ovulation tests and decided to test it 5 days before the web said i was due to ovulate and it came out positive which goes to show thats the reason why i wasnt concieving. The web was giving me a wrong ovulation date and proud to say i just found out im expecting.
I also found out i was pregnant with my first daughter using these as well. I LOOOOOOOVE the dollar store.:]

  122. The dollar store ones I haven’t tried yet but, just beware if you are taking the drug norethindrone (Aygestin) you will test positive for any pregnancy test!! The drug is made up of the hormoane the pregnancy test, tests for.

I was 16 and taking Aygestin for my endometriosis and I tested positive and it caused me a lot of problems!!! I wasn’t even pregnant!!

On another note if your taking Aygestin (Norethindrone) for birth control purposes and you use a test, if you test positive when your taking the drug it means basically the birth control is working. Like all birth control it’s not 100%, but if you want to have sex and your not sure if the Aygestin (Norethindrone) is in your system working, take a pregnancy test if it tests positive it means the Aygestin is in your system. (THIS DOES NOT MEAN FOR SURE THAT IT’S WORKING You should wait at least 3 weeks after taking the drug at least) I have taken tests in the past that have been negative a few weeks into taking the drug.

  123. I took a dollar pregnancy and found out i was pregnant. they work but they don’t tell you early. you have to do the normal 2 weeks after your missed period.

  124. I absolutely trust the dollar tree test I tested at 5 weeks and it came out positive. I’ve used theses test a few times and every time they were accurate.

  125. I always use the dollar store pregnancy tests, and they have always been accurate. And I use them early too. But like any pregnancy test, getting an accurate reading earlier depends on your hormone levels. I heard from other friends to not waste money on tests from the grocery store. And if worse comes to worse and the dollar store test IS wrong? It was only a dollar. But they are supposed to be just as accurate. Other companies make a haul on people because finding out if your pregnant or not is a big deal. Good luck!

  126. I think its pretty funny that so many people think that just because its cheap at $1 it just cannot work!! WHATEVER! It’s the same kind of test, your just not paying for the fancy name and packaging. Your result will depend on when you are testing and how far along you are. They have always worked for me just as the more expensive ones have.

  127. Dollar Store Queen
    January 1st, 2011 at 1:56 am

I used a dollar store test the day my period was supposed to come and it did not come and the test showed a very faint positive. I bought another dollar store test and again it was still positive. My period is like clockwork, when it had not arrived that afternoon, I knew something was amiss. And 5 years later that pregnancy test from the dollar store was very accurate as now I have a little boy!

  128. I have taken 2 of the pregnancy tests today and both have come back positive. The test line was real faint. Has anyone else had this? I am re-testing in the morning to see if the line will be any darker. If I am pregnant i took the test after being 4 days late.

  129. Yes, they work. But always buy a couple at a time. I’ve had quite a few not register even a test line. After peeing on it, the whole thing turned yellow with no lines as at. I always found it frustrating to buy only one, have it turn up nothing, then have to go back and buy another. I actually had a chemical pregnancy last month, and the dollar store test detected it.

I’ve had 3 babies. With my second 2, I used $ store tests and got positives. Of course, I did back this up with NAME BRAND ones…just to be sure.

I think they are accurate, just buy at least 2-3 at one time to save yourself the extra trip!

  130. My husband and I are trying for a baby. We stalk up on the dollar store brand. I have to take them soo often it’s pointless to buy the exspensive ones. Our local health department also buys them from the dollar store as well. Companies that sell pregnancy test do have to follow health guidelines before they can put them on the market. Yes, many clients of mine, and friends have used them and all had accurate results and still followed up with a normal priced test and still the same results “positive”

  131. I got a positive result 11 days past ovulation with a $ tree test. They are accurate and all i use.

  132. I used dollar store pregnancy test with my last child and it worked and as well just used it again and sure enough im pregnant. I always doubt each time i take them but everytime its proved me wrong. Its all just about a name brand. Why spend 10 when u can spend a dollar

  133. Sort of amusing to see women complain about false negatives…stating that when they tested a week later on with another brand they got a positive. They were probably testing too early with the $1 test for ANY test to read positive. It was the tester that was faulty, not the test!

  134. I only use the dollar ones because they have a sensitivity of 25 and all the digital ones are 50. I have low hormone levels and have to wait until a week late just for the dollar store ones to show positive. For a regular one I have to be almost 2 months pregnant, which I will have miscarried by then because I was not one meds asap. I now have a healthy 3 month old. I tested the day I missed, negative. Positive a week later and put on meds that week.

  135. Ok this site confirms it. I am going to go by the dollar rama store out of test. This is about the 6th site I’ve seen tonight and Every person is saying that they are great! I have saw them too and I did the same. I pointed it out to my husband and just kinda laughed and said ugh yeah idk about that. Now I wish I would of went with that idea. Lol at the end of 2010 I was major stressed. I missed my period for 2 months to only find out I wasn’t expecting. But you have no clue how many sticks I peed on in that time. I must of forked out a good $70. Well Its been 2 months again. So either I am or Its just due to stress. Either way I’m just getting more stressed.

  136. hey guys well my girls period was suppose to come in like the 22nd of February and well she did the test on the 2nd of march and came out negative and one on the 3rd in the early morning and negative with the dollar tree test. do u guys think its right cuz she still hasent got it and she assures me she isnt prego. is it just me stressing it and worried or what?

  137. So, my period usually comes the 14th of each month. In january it came on the 4th, then February I did not get one at all. Here it is, March 4th, still no period. I have taken 3 dollar tree tests and they’ve been negative. I’ve never given them the whole 3 minutes I pee, see 1 line and toss them. I’ve been off the nuvaring since September. Not sure what’s going on.. scared to take a more expensive test. =( Any advice? Anyone go through this? Wouldn’t mind having a child…although not TTC.

  138. I thought just like you. How on earth can a dollar store pregnancy test be correct. After I spent so much money a clear blue easy ovulation kit, I thought what the heck…let me give the $1 store a try. IT WORKED! The result was accurate! Don’t judge a book by it’s cover.

  139. I actually bought the test when i suspected being pregnant and it worked like a charm. All three tests i purchased came out positive!

  140. I just wanted to say… I think they’re very accurate.
But, I have a question… I took four of them and they all appeared positive and now it seems I’ve had cramping and am bleeding. Please tell me, I could still be pregnant. Help.

  141. Mary- I would def. go get an EPT Test! With my last child I knew I was pregnant, was sleeping all day, pukeing etc. I took atleast 6of the 1$ test and all of them said negitive! Then went and got an EPT & it showed up positive! I would never trust the 1$ one!

  142. @Christan. I don’t know… I’d say to see the doctor. They may have to do an ultrasound to check.
Good luck!! Hope all is ok. I’ve known plenty who’ve had early bleeding (myself included) and been fine. Fingers crossed for you.

  143. Dana Prince,
Thank you. Your help is much appreciated.
I’ve had five positive tests and four from the Dollar Tree.
I believe they are to be very accurate and reliable.
    Thank you, again.

Also, do you know any reasons as to why I could be bleeding?

  144. well i wanted to know if they were accurate because i need to know if i am and i cant be too suspicious about it and ask my parents for ten dollars and come back home with nothing bought. so i figured that after all of these comments i should trust the dollar store preg. tests and get one tonight..im scared for the conclusion and at the same time excited :0

  145. The Unknown,
Yes, The Dollar Tree tests are very accurate and reliable.
Keep us posted and Good Luck!

  146. Update…
    I am not pregnant.
Either false positives or a flushed pregnancy.
    Wake up call.

  147. If i’m 15 wks prego, when would be my concieve date? I’ve had a few partners and trying to figuer things out.. please help.

  148. I just found out 5 days ago I’m pregnant, I had a test leftover from a few months ago that was first response and it said positive, then just to make sure I went and got 2 more from the dollar tree and both said positive. I took one the day before my missed period and i took one the day after my missed period and both were accurate! I would def. recommend the dollar tree tests, cause I was pretty skeptical myself at first, but when i saw those 2 little lines, it all changed!

Omg this is great to read cuz I buy them all o the time I hav been 4 months late and they are all neg I bought a 15.00 one and same thing neg .. Grr I hate being a woman but ya I trust a dollar store test they are just Products from other stores that were not selling them

  150. I used them with both of my pregnancies and times I thought I was preg but wasn’t. Accurate everytime. With my daughter I took an EPT digital one and it came up positive before my missed period then I took a dollar store one just for the hell of it and it was a light positive but definitely positive. I don’t think they are capable of detecting pregnancies as early as others may be, so if your impatient I suggest spending the extra money.

  151. well in my case it worked…i had took 3 1st response pregnancy test and they were negative and i had a blood test and it was negative…so i decided to try a dollar one and it was positive

  152. My period isnt due til the 20th of this month. I took a dollar store test this morning and got a BFP! I really hope its accurate. Im making a doctor appt. asap to confirm it

  153. i used one with my first pregnancy and just took one the other day and it was positive!!

  154. I went to the 99ent store and bought 2 test just to be safe. i was a little skeptical at first because they are a dollar but my friend who works in a hospital assured me they are indeed the same as the expensive brands. I took both tests and they came out negative. im a little worried because i have been very nauseous, and my period is over a week late.

  155. I have used the dollar store ones many times……It was the first test to come up positive with my youngest daughter and I found out a week and a half after ovulation. My cousin used them too, it also came up positive with her son. I love these test accurate and cheap

  156. yes me and my husband just had a first year in june and we have been trying to have a baby i have used clear blue many of times just as well all the other test out their the 1 dollar test from the dollar store are a very good brand and are very accurate and would recomand anyone to use them.

  157. Yes they are accurate. My first pregnancy i used a dollar store pregnancy test and it said positive. To this day it still says postitive and i have a beauitful 1 year old girl.

  158. Thank you to everyone that shared their experience about dollar preggo tests…advice taken and money saved!!!! hope you all are have a beautiful day!!!

  159. I’m a 16 year old high school senior. I just found out that my girlfriend cheated on me. Now she thinks she is pregnant. I have not had sexual intercourse with her, but she did it with the guy who she was indulging in the affair with. She wants me to buy her a test, but frankly I don’t think she’s worth my time and money after what she did to me. Would you say a dollar tree test is effective if I’m hoping for a negative?

  160. @Nathaniel,
Seems it’s not your responsibility but judging by the responses to people asking and answering about whether or not the Dollar Tree pregnancy test is trustworthy or not, it might be a worthwhile investment for getting an answer. Good for you for deciding not to waste any more time with someone who would cheat on you.

  161. I have read almost half of these answers and no one so far, has said anything about getting a very faint second line. I’ve heard that a line is a line. My cycle was due to start today, we have been trying for about 10 months now to get pregnant, I have never gotten any line at all….has anyone else gotten that faint second line and what did it mean for you?? Oh, and BTW…since we have been trying for so long, and I have taken so many tests, of course, I would and have used the Dollar Store tests…just hopefully wondering about my very faint second line!!! :D

  162. I just turned 21 on july 13 and afriad I may be pregnant. I’m really broke so I’m gonna buy a couple dollar store test vs 1 15 dollar test. I’m 3day late on my period and am praying and praying I’m not pregnant. I can’t even afford 300 to go back to school let alone 1000s for a baby. However i do kno the father and hes very successful. Ive been told child suport is income based. I’ve talked to my doctor and theh said all generic medicine products have the same chemicals or products as the namebrand. So the dollar store test should work the same.and like the poster before said 18 dollar test has to be more accurate than one 18 dollar test. So here’s hoping *crosses fingers*

  163. Took three tests…all have a faint second line! :) Very excited, we’re having a baby!!! <3 Dollar Tree worked for me. With all the tests I have taken over 10 months of 'trying' I am very greatful that there is an affordable aption for testing!

  164. Hey Hollywood, I was just wondering of the results… did you get a positive or negative? If it’s positive, don’t worry, I was 21 and broke when I first got pregnant too. And the dad was close to being broke. I got medical insurance through the state (living in USA) because if you’re pregnant then they have to give you med ins even if you don’t have a job and all co-payments are $0.00. If you do get court ordered child support, then you’d also probably qualify for child care assistance, meaning they’ll help you pay for a daycare whenever you’re ready to continue school or get a job. And as long as you’re in school or working when the child is older then you can also get food stamps. Don’t forget about WIC too. I am now 26 and my little girl is 4 (got preg at 21 but gave birth at 22). I had already gotten my bachelors, but this is how I got my masters and I’m currently job hunting so I can get off the system. Also, if you’re still working on your bachelors then you could probably get a grant and go to school for free since you have kid, but if it’s a masters you’ll just have to get loans.

And back to the main topic, thanks for all the thoughts and sharing of experiences. I’ve had many pregnancy scares throughout grad school and this would have been an awesome option if I had known about it, being a single mom in school and broke as a joke. I’m actually trying to conceive now that I’ve graduated and I’m totally gonna use these dollar store HPT’s!!!

  165. Are we talking about a specific dollar store chain or just in general? I ask because I did a DT test this morning and it came up negative. I have had symptoms out the hoo ha so I bought one at wal mart and it’s positive. So, needless to say, I dont recommend the DT tests. However, I dont know about other dollar stores.

  166. I have 4 kids and have tried just about every pregnancy tests. I always purchased a couple different brands to test just to be sure. Ive taken clearblue, first response, walmart brand, EPT, and dollar tree pregnancy tests. The only one that was ever correct in letting me know if I was pregnant is the Dollar Tree test for $1. The Dollar Tree test gave me a positive every time when the others said negative. Of course I took the tests after my missed period, and read the instructions and followed them word for word. You would think how hard can it be to take a pregnancy test but really some people do mess them up and take them wrong, like not enough urine, or if it is like the 4 drop dollar tree test too many drops or not enough, the slightest change makes a difference. Same with chugging down water before you take a test can dilute your urine, where as not drinking a ton before would give you a better result (hence why they say morning urine is best, because you’ve hadn’t drank anything in like 6 to 8 hours and you have been holding your pee.)

  167. I have 4 kids and have tried just about every pregnancy tests. I always purchased a couple different brands to test just to be sure. 168. I took the dollar tree test and they have been accurate. I took the test three days ago and it was positive and went to the doc to test my blood(my hcg now is at 325), so I am pregnant. I find these test easier to read and more accurate then the expensive test :)

  169. I seriously love $1 store tests. Long story short, they showed me a clear + before my expected period with my first two kids. I am currently 11 days late, I decided to use a different kind because imy husband was skeptical. I have taken three different kinds in the past 9 days, all neg. I took a $1 store the same day (9) w/a faint +. Gott ablood test yesterday, and today, BLAM!

Seriously, as long as you check they aren’t expired (because they sure don’t at the store), you’re fine!

  170. i used a dollar store test today, bought 2 just in case, and it came up positive so i googled false positive pregnancy tests, theres no such thing unless your body has fertility drugs in it to help get pregnant or you just had a miscarriage to come up positive. im sure with just using the 1 that im pregnant. false negatives however can happen. i trust my little dollar store test so now i shall make an appt with my gyn.

  171. btw my 2nd line was really faint but the 2nd test they were dark pink, depends on the pee i guess.

  172. For both of my pregnancies I took this test and they always came up false negative until I was like 8 weeks…I’ll keep using the walmart generic tests.

  173. Am 5 weeksn and how I found out was with the dollar store kind…2 test for about 2 dollars…and come to find out when going to the doctor the test they used looked just like the dollar store kind…I 100% trust it..atleast you can take 5 and it only be 5 dollars…

  174. I used a dollar store test, it showed positive before I even finshed wiping! When I went to the DOC he told me i was on ly 3 weeks pregnant! With my first pregnancy I used ONLY name brands and they were all negative until a week AFTER my period was due. I would say they most definately work! He also gave me a website that showed the amount of HCG levels each test requires.. ALL BRANDS ARE ON THERE, i have long lost the list, but I am sure you can google it! The dollar store test requires WAY less HCG levels then that of Clearblue and FIrst response. For those of you whom are saying they are cheap therefore do not work, I suggest do like I did and RESEARCH before you waste your $$$$$$….. You could have had 18 test for the price of one clearblue, You could have used abt 4 test a week for a month, verses 1 test 1 time a month that has to be accurately timed!!

  175. YES they are accurate! I used a digidal one first which came out positive but I didn’t believe it so I took two more of the dollar store ones. A nurse at my OB clinic told me they are the exact same technology as they use in the doctors office, so if it says your pregnant, you probably are! :) And sure enough they were all positive ^_^ now we have a baby girl on the way! Woot woot!

  176. Well, I am convinced…we are trying and I started off with the million dollar tests. Then moved on to the dollar store test. My friend told me, “what are you doing?go to the dollar store”. She ugsed it for her pregnancy 7 years ago and yes, it was accurate. So, here I am waiting. In thee mean time I will not go broke. Being broke and jusgt before having babies…they don’t go well.

  177. I found out with two $1 Dollar Store tests, just 10 days after conception! I took two to be sure. Went to the doctor for an ultrasound a week later, and was 3 weeks along. It just depends on your hormone level.. My older sister had to wait until she was further along, and said because I was younger & my body was different that maybe my tests picked up sooner… I took a ClearBlue Digital the same week as the Dollar Store tests and it said negative, it’s said the Digital tests aren’t as accurate, and won’t tell as soon.. Hope this helps! (:
    -Now 20 wks prego((:

  178. Also the Dollar Store tests are the EXACT ones they use in most doctors offices!

  179. I got 3 dollar store test when i was 6 weeks, i was pregnant, positive right off the bat every time.

  180. i took 3 pregnancy test from the dollar store all the $1 pregnancy test and all of them were positive and come to find out i really was pregnant. they are the same as the other ones just cheaper which is good for a lot of people.

  181. I bought two test at Dollar Tree and used one yesterday as soon as I got home. It was negative and I was wondering if the first urine in the morning would make a difference. For you girls who got a BFP, did you test in the morning? BTW, I am five days late and no signs of my period yet!

  182. Barb, yes, I’ve heard first morning pee is better (more concentrated).

All: My experience with dollar store pee sticks(I have 3 kids):
If I remember right with my First baby I used a couple grocery store brand tests(the cheapest ones I could find was, I think, a 2 pack for $7) and they were correctly negative. I was glad to find the dollar store tests…they too were correctly negative when I used them…When I finally was pregnant I used a dollar store test and the line was instantly there but very faint and I was indeed prego! The doctor’s office told me ALL the over the counter tests work the same, the only thing is if tested too early you could get a negative and still be prego…as I found out with my Second baby…I again used dollar store tests. On the day I expected my period it was negative, but two days later (when I still had not started my period) I took another dollar store test and it was correctly positive (so if it’s negative, take another test in a couple days if you still haven’t started) My Third baby I used another dollar store test with a correct positive right away, this time on the first day of missed period.
For me and my husband it took about 7-8 months to conceive our first baby. So, I was glad when I found tests for $1!!!

  183. I am five weeks and one day- dollar tree test turned positive instantly, as well as a $5 test from Wal-mart- both instant positive. Reliable.

  184. I’ve spent almost $40 on tests just in the last month. I got faint lines on the first 2 (first response). I thought totally pregnant. My spouse was skeptical because with our 1st 2 kids showed were dark lines right away with the same brand. So i went and bought another two EPT certantity digital. Both negative. One last night. One this morning. Jeez. I am already googling for the closest Dollar Tree on my way home. I read online that the dollar tree brand can actually detect a lower amount of the hormone than the Digital EPT ones. JEEZ!!

  185. Actually yes! I bought a $1 dollar test at Dollar Tree, it was positive, then I wanted to test the $4 kind, it came back positive. So as an experiment I bought a “regularly priced” test, it was also positive. Blood work was done and confirmed that every test was right, I was positively pregnant. 8 1/2 months later the ultimate proof came in the form of a beautiful and healthy baby boy. From then on, I have put my complete faith in $1 tests. The reason why some people don’t trust the $1 kind is simply because there is a lot at stake, literally LIVES at stake (because a baby is a BIG life changer :P for real!). But it also has to do with the brand name hype, if it’s not a big name, how can it be trusted? I’ve been pregnant 5 times, all of which were confirmed by a $1. Buying a test for a buck doesn’t make you unfit to have a baby (some people say if you can’t afford a $20 test you shouldn’t be having kids) it makes you thrifty, now you have an extra $19 to spend on important things like invitations to your baby shower!! I’m in the medical field, working on my Medical Assisting license, the hospitals buy pregnancy tests in bulk, 100 tests for $40 or even less!! That makes a test around $2.50 a piece! Understand this, each test has a certain level of the hCG hormone that it can pick up through urine, some tests are better to use earlier and some are better to use a little later (I’m talking in days here.) “1st Response” is a great test (though on the expensive side) because it can detect even the smallest levels of hCG so you find out sooner, other tests; like store brands or the aforementioned $1 test; may not have such a sensitive testing strip. It all depends on how pregnant you are (how far along you are, for those smart alecs out there ;P you know who you are.) and the tests capability to detect the hormone. There is a site that I have used in the past called “Baby Hopes” which has proven to be very helpful. It has the tests for sale with wholesale prices, for instance, you can buy 5 tests (the kind doctors use) for $11.99, or single tests for $3.19 (they have to make some sort of profit) it’s better and more thrifty to buy in bulk. So, yes, a $1 test can be very accurate if you have enough hCG in your urine, I have found it to be a very good way to find out if there is in fact a bun in the oven or not. Hope this was helpful.

  186. It all depends on how pregnant you are (how far along you are, for those smart alecs out there :P you know who you are.) and the tests capability to detect the hormone. 187. Yes! They work! I volunteer at a local pregnancy crisis center and we use the same tests as dollar tree sells. I personally refuse to spend more on anything than I have to. It makes me mad that ept can charge so much for a test that isn’t even as sensitive as a dollar store test! Anyway, I use them all the time. Oh and I’ve gotten so good at taking the dollar store ones I don’t even waste a cup anymore. I just pee right in the foil packet, after I take out the silicone pack first of course…;)

  188. i’m due the 8th of march 2012 when did i concive i know it was in june but wat date please help me out asap

  189. I got a BFP 11 DPO the first time I got Pregnant. I used the EPT along with the dollar tree one which showed positive as well 11 DPO. I would surely use it again :)

  190. I have used the expensive ones but for the past yrs i have used the dollar tree and dollar store pregnancy test they work just as good as the expensive ones and alot cheaper. i would tell anyone to use them

  191. They work! When we were trying for our second child I tried two of the expensive brands and they were both negative. The next day my friend brought me a dollar store one, I laughed, but it came out postive as well as the other two she bought me. They worked better than the expensive ones.

  192. I bought a test today and was negitive I have taken these before and were accurate. Now on the other hand my sister had taken a few of these but she actually was pregnant . So I guess it just depends. Gl ladies

  193. yes i have used these test and there ovulation test they were always accurate for me. I also buy test wholesale and they are only 35cents to 1.00 and they have been accurate for me also. just because its not name brand doesn’t mean they don’t work. You can buy a 20 dollar test and it can be a faulty one.You take a gamble every time you pick up a box name brand or not. anyways good luck

  194. I just wanted to chime in here. I took a Dollar Tree pregnancy test night before last when I was 2 days late. I got an instant positive…in the evening! I took another yesterday morning and same result. Now I’m going today to get an official one from the doctor. I’m about 4 weeks pregnant :-)

  195. It worked for us. We bought 10 and play with it everyday when we want to have a baby… it worked! Just came from another dollar store and bought 4 tonight…. :)

This is the most saving item I found at the dollar stores compared to other things we bought there.

  196. They work

  197. I use these test anytime I have to buy them. It has always been VERY ACCURATE. When it says negative its really been a no go. And when its said positive its always right. And whether it neg. Or pos. I always do two test and always get same results. My first positve showed up at 6weeks pregnant. The second and third babies showed positive at 4 weeks pregnant and my fourth baby showed up positive at only 2 weeks pregnant. I wasn’t even scheduled for my period for another two weeks. But I did just buy my first one today that wad broke. No line showed up. But I also dropped the whole thing n the water so I think that messed it up..but they r the only ones I have bought for 6 yrs! I’ve bought all together 9 and only spent $9.63 for all of them combined

  198. At BB u probably got pregnant june 8 2011.

  199. READ THIS!!! it will help u!

I took a dollar store test, that was only 1.08, It was positive, I didnt trust it too much, so I took TWO first response tests, and both positive, so it is very accurate, a few of my friends have used them too! So dont be afraid, be cheap and buy the 1 dollar test!

  200. I would have to say the ones from the Dollar General work very well!! A friend of mine bought hers there when she thought she was pregnant, and sure enough she had a little boy. I just recently thought I might be pregnant, so I opted to buy one from there as well, being only $1 and short on cash, and low and behold……POSITIVE, and in less than a minute I had very bright pink lines!! I am now nearly 7 weeks, and couldnt be happier with my cheap pregnancy test!! I would definitely recommend them no matter how much money you have or dont have. They all work exactly the same. Downside is it doesnt provide a cup, so you have to take it in a place you have access to one, but that doesnt make it any less accurate.

  201. i took five and went to doctor they r accurate as all the rest

  202. if ur scared of dollar tree products whu are u in there anyways. .i love dollar tree

  203. I hope they are accurate because I just had a positive test with one. Hehehehehe.
Their ovulation predictors are also very accurate :)

  204. I took two in septemeber i didnt believe them so i was doubting i was pregnant but then i had one done at docters still positive and blood was positive now im 11 weeks pregnant and couldnt be happier dont be dumb by the dollar store test they work!

  205. I took two in septemeber i didnt believe them so i was doubting i was pregnant but then i had one done at docters still positive and blood was positive now im 11 weeks pregnant and couldnt be happier dont be dumb by the dollar store test they work!

  206. If you have to wait that long for accuracy whats the point? I took one but it had no antibody strip…cant test positive or negative without that…i wont use one again…and still waiting for period

  207. YES YES
    I TOOK 3POSITIVE
AT HOPSITAL NOW DOCTOR CONFIRM YES

  208. The dollar tree tests are very accurate. And if you are at the hospital and they give you a pregnancy test they actually use the tests from dollar tree. They wouldn’t use something that wasn’t accurate.

  209. I am going to try one in a few more days :)

  210. THIS IS AN ABSOLUTE LIE!!!! I TOOK 5 TESTS…WHICH I BOUGHT FROM DOLLAR TREE AND THEY ALL CAME OUT NEGATIVE. THEN I STARTED HAVING PREGNANCY SYMPTOMS…I WENT AND BOUGHT A E.P.T TEST WHICH WAS ABOUT 25 DOLLARS AND ALL 4 WERE POSITIVE. THEN I WENT TO THE DOCTOR AND IT WAS POSITIVE….DO NOT BUY THOSE TESTS!!!! THEY R CHEAP AND NOT ACCURATE!!!!

  211. I did not think I could be pregnant, so I thought I would buy one of these cheap tests to make sure. When the 1st, 2nd and 3rd came out positive, I went and bought the most expensive test across the street an it was positive too. Guess they all do the same thing!

  212. Chemistry is chemistry, right?

  213. Honestly, you can’t look at the cost and think it will not work. The dollar store tests are almost identical to the ones used in doctors offices. I have one child, and am expecting my second. When using the dollar store tests I get positive results within seconds and have used them as early as 4 days before my missed period. They do work just as well as others!

  214. I have always used these – I tried a digital one that told me I was pregnant – did a second test with the dollar store version the next day that said I wasn’t. Guess what? Dollar store one was correct. Absolutely trust them!

  215. This test detected my pregnancy in November 2011 at 12 dpo and was 6 days away from the day of my missed period. Sadly I miscarried and started my period on the day it was expected. The baby test from dollar general has now detected a new pregnancy at 10 dpo and I’m 6 days away from the day of my expected period. Their sensitivity is 25 mius. To NOT buy this just to have an expensive test that costs $10 more is crazy.

  216. They are GREAT. Detected my pregnancy before ept early result and first response. Just have to be careful with them like any test. Use the dropper and leave it alone. My result showed up in about 5 mins! Extra awesome bc you can feel pretty guilt free about using 10 of them to make sure! LOL!

  217. its what they use in doctor offices and at clinics…they work fine…

  218. It worked for me! I took it after being 2 weeks late (day after thanksgiving 11/27/11) The positive line appeared instantly, before I even had the chance to add the fourth drop of urine! The next day i gook another hpt and got positive result again…I got a confirmation with Hope Women Center! 38 weeks later, my hubby and i welcomed our first baby (son)Aiden! He’s 7 months now! I still have my Dollar Tree and Dollar General hpt. I’ll never forget that day!

  219. Would I buy them again? Heck yea!!!

  220. Yeah they may be cheap I used five of them before I new I was pregnant and it was right so yeah there accurate I went and fgot a blood test done the next day and it was deffinantly. Right

  221. I have three kids and used the dollar store to detect each pregnancy and it was always right. Why waste the money?

  222. I used a 1$ test from the Dollar Store that came back negative and also used a name brand digital test that said pregnant and as I sit here typing this my almost 3 year old son is sitting here with me/He is the negative Dollar test and the Positive digital test results..I am not saying don’t use them… just saying they told me I wasn’t pregnant the same day that another test told me I was.

  223. I just used a dollar store test last night & came out positive I’ve used them before while my fiance and I were ttc for a second child but haven’t been able to for so long, I trust them. but I am getting a blood test from my doctor as well since I could be wrong, but we wasted sooo much money on $20 tests thinking they were more accurate but I could have bought 20 tests through the dollar store!

  224. When I was pregnant with my 2 year old, my bff told me not to waste money on an expensive pregnancy test, she told me to go to 99 cent store and buy it there. I never knew they sold pregnancy tests, but due to financial struggles, I decided to try it. It was accurate, I was definately pregnant. Now here I am 2 1/2 years later wondering if Im pregnant, so I bought a pregnancy test at walmart for .88cents and sure enough, it said I was pregnant..the result appeared in less than a minute. Im not sure how to feel about it, but I do plan on getting another test just to double confirm. I have found them to be accurate in the past, I think Im just in denial now!!!

  225. My uncle is a dr.and he buys his tests from the dollars store. He says they are the same thing!

  226. I got a positive with two of them today!

  227. YES! THEY WORK, IVE USED THEM MULTIPLE TIMES AND WHEN THEY READ NEGATIVE [I WASNT PREGNANT] & AS OF A COUPLE DAYS AGO I TOOK A TEST THAT WAS POSITIVE… & I HAVE TAKEN 2 MORE POSITIVE TESTS! IM VERY EXCITED TO BE BRINGING A CHILD INTO THIS WORLD.

  228. I dont think there is anything wrong with buying Dollar Tree test. I have bought just about every brand and they are just as accurate. For those who say “false positives” there really is no such thing. Your body is either producing hcg or not. Many of these early positives result from a chemical pregnancy. I had 5 positive tests before my missed period. EPT, first response, and expensive digital. Went to Dr. Day if missed period and was negative. Got period 2 days later. Many women have very early miscarraiges and don’t know. But with testing available so early, it can result in so called “false positives” from chemical pregnancies. Knowing your body and waiting to miss you period is always your best bet with any test, expensive or not.

  229. I used it three weeks ago, two days after my missed period. It showed positive, I double check with my doctor and he confirmed!. I’m glad that I didn’t pay 18 or 20 dollars (again :( …)for a pregnancy test.

  230. I trust the dollar store pregnancy test. A coworker of mine told me that she found out she was pregnant with her first child by a dollar store pregnancy test..and just took another one recently and found out she is pregnant again. I haven’t had my period in about a month and a half so I got paranoid and got a test from there too. It came back negative and I actually trust it. usually I am spending 13-15 bucks on a preggo test and it makes me cringe every time especially when it comes back NEGATIVE ugh! I am going to take another one in the morning though when the HCG is most potent..if its negative again I am pretty confident I”m not pregnant then. I would probably only get mine from Dollar tree though. The clerk said they are really accurate and they fly off the shelves they can barely keep them stocked. And it makes me feel good to know it only put me 2 bucks in the hole! ;-)

  231. they are exactly what a health dept uses, and yes they work just fine!

  232. Of course your dr tells you not to trust them! They want you to come in so they can charge you 20-30x what they paid for the test.

In my state, OBGYNs, hospitals, Planned Parenthood and clinics all bulk buy the EXACT same brand that dollar tree carries. I’ve literally seen a nurse rip open a foil package and take a test out, leaving the foil on the counter. I thought it looked familiar, so I picked it up and it was identical to the ones I’ve bought at Dollar Tree.

They say on the box that they don’t work before your period. For many who said they got negatives but were pregnant, that’s probably why. These are not “early detection” tests.

  233. I work in a healthcare setting, and can honestly say, HCG strips are all the same. There is no one that can detect the hormone better than the other. So, the strip used in big brand names such as “first response” is definitely the same one used in “assured”, the dollar store brand.

The reason for the price difference is the convenience. One you can simply pee on, and throw away, versus one where you have to pee in some kind of container and test with a dropper.

Last, and finally, pregnancy tests work differently for everyone. Some of us produce a low amount of HCG, that it can’t be detected by the test… OR it also depends on the time of day you take the test. Your pee may contain more HCG in the morning, versus, the afternoon, for example.

  234. Yes, they do work. There are credible websites that sell test strips by the dozen+ for less than .35 per strip. It’s the same idea, just with a cheap plastic surrounding.

  235. I am 6 weeks pregnant and just took a positive test from the dollar store… My sister used them for all four of her pregnancies

  236. Yes the $1 store pregnancy test are accurate. I’ve used these strips on the last 3 pregnancy’s. I work at a hospital and I found that the pregnancy test strips used in our labrotory look almost indenticle to the $1 tree test

  237. I know this is an old thread but YES they are accurate. We just got our second positive this morning :) Our first child took 3 surgeries, fertility drugs and 2 years to conceive. We must’ve run through 25+ tests. When we finally got a positive, my wife did two more to be sure…all of them were accurate. We never had a false positive during those two years. So, you do the math: 25 x $10 = $250( and that’s being conservative, some tests cost more!) vs. 25 x $1 = $25. No brainer

  238. I am preggs, and all of my one dollar tests came back positive. Seems accurate to me.

  239. reading all these comments gives me such relief! my husband and i have been TTC off and on for the last 2 years. My cycle was irregular, so it was always a guessing game on when i was ovulating. just a few months ago- my gyno put me on clomid for a couple months. it helps to regulate and gives a more accurate idea of ovulation days. no pregnancy during the time i was on it. now– 1 month after being off the meds, i was late (but w/ past irregular cycles history- i didn’t believe it), slight cramping and sore breasts. i didn’t want to believe anything i read as far as symptoms. told one of my coworkers- she bought me an .88 cent test from walmart and w/in seconds– it said positive. i’m in disbelief, so i’ll be going to a free clinic today, and even after they say it’s positive– there’s no telling how many more tests i’ll take. :-)

  240. N O they do not work i took one and it said negitive took a more expensive one and it came out positive the expensive ones are more money for a reason

  241. it depends on the your hormones all women are different and any pee test wont be 100% accurate not even blood test …. my aunt tried two and they came out positive both times and it was right ….. Even 10-30$ ones come out wrong

  242. I have bought multiple tests from the dollar store and I have found out with each of my pregnancy’s through these tests. Me and my 2 sisters, who also have kids, swear by these!!!

  243. I work in a medical office and the dollar tests are the same ones used in many offices and hospitals

  244. Yes it works !!! I recommend to dont spend money in expensive ones ! I got a positive result 4 days before I expected my period . It was the only test who worked ! It Came a very faint white line and the next day I did another one and the line started to turn more red!
    Good luck !

  245. 1st Child: THAT Preggo Test was 99.9% more accurate than The Digital Blue!!! I took 15 and was preggo!! I took 2 DB and was ALL Negative!
2nd Child: NOTHING Was NEGITIVE BUT …Digital Blue!!
    LOST BABY!!!!!!
3rd Child: All BUT dollar Pregnancy Test Was negative … EVEN dr’s!!!

DOLLAR TREE TEST ARE ONLY BEST FOR EARLY EARLY PREGNANCY’S!!!!
Each time I was NOT EVEN PREGGO YET!!! I was 2-4 WEEKS!!!

    {those are the exact same as we use at the dr’s office!!!!!!!!!}

  246. I used a dollar test and accurately tested positive 3 days before my missed period
